Arrive Guwahati airport and drive to Cherrapunjee. En route visit Umiam Lake (Barapani Lake). Check-in hotel and Overnight at Cherrapunjee.
UMIAM LAKE - a manmade lake which is actually a dam for Umiamriver. It is spread over 220 square km. Activities like kayaking, water cycling, scooting and boating are available.
After breakfast begin trek for Living root bridge (4-5 hours return trek) to witness nature’s wonder. The Trek begins as you go downhill for 4 kms through village Sohsarat. Major distance is covered with downhill steps and then a walk through a jungle path along the hill. One has to walk through steep steps and a slopingpagdandi. Behold !the beauty of the natural wonder.
The bridges are tangles of massive thick roots, which the local people intertwined to form a bridge that can hold several people at a time. The root bridges, may be up to over a hundred feet long, take ten to fifteen years to become fully functional, but they become very strong in the process. The bridges live and keep growing and strengthen over time. The useful lifespan of the bridges, is thought to be 500–600 years.
Afternoon visit Seven Sisters Falls and Nohkalikai Falls. Overnight in Cherrapunjee.
